MEGAN Lynn

Artistic Director

Megan Lynn began her dance training at age 11 at the Dance Conservatory of Maryland and Maryland School of Ballet and Modern Dance, where she became a soloist with the Harford Ballet Company and Maryland Dance Project, respectively. Megan also had the opportunity to train at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Point Park University: International Summer Dance, and Ballet Royale Institute of Maryland.

Megan graduated with a BA in Dance Choreography and Science from Goucher College in 2011. At Goucher she had the privilege of working with Christopher Fleming, Heidi Henderson, Zippora Karz, Larry Keigwin, and many other nationally renowned artists. She was a member of the Goucher Repertory Ensemble and the Moving Classroom Project, an outreach program integrating arts and academics for Baltimore City elementary schools. Megan studied contemporary and traditional dance in Brazil at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and the Deborah Colker School. She presented works in many student concerts at the Todd Studio Theater. Her personal senior concert, “A World of His Own Invention,” was a 45- minute interactive performance, based on Harold and the Purple Crayon, in which the audience traveled throughout the building seeing dance performed in non-traditional spaces.

After relocating to New York, Megan has had the opportunity to work with Allison Brzezsinski, Isabel Lewis, TSH Dance Project, and the Matthew Westerby Company. In May 2012, she founded her own company – Asterial Dance. Since then, Megan has presented works at Hudson Guild Theater, Secret Theater, Performance Garage, Meetinghouse Theater, Ailey Citygroup Theater, White Wave John Ryan Theater, DANY Studios, Dixon Place, Genesis Dance Project, Amalgamate Artist Series, HATCH Presenting Series, Ailey Studios, and the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse. She has taken a dual approach in developing the company, not only producing Asterial's own seasons, but also producing performing opportunities for emerging companies through the Biomorphic Dance Festival and Upsurge Choreography Platform. Megan collaborates with her dancers to create works that mix elements of improvisation and athletic, technical movement physicallizing different human experiences. She also pushes the boundaries of established technique by experimenting with props, scenic elements, and lighting.

In addition to Asterial, Megan has spent the last six years teaching and choreographing for dancers ages 3- 18 throughout Maryland and New York. Megan is an ABT Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT National Training Curriculum. She is currently on the faculty at Ballet Academy East, Dancewave, and Steffi Nossen School of Dance. Her knowledge of the human body, from both studying Biology and working as a personal trainer, gives her students an opportunity to understand movement from an anatomically correct perspective rather than age-old tradition. Megan served as the co-director of the Journey Church Dance Team. She has choreographed works performed in services as well as envisioned and directed a Good Friday Interactive Arts Experience.
